CLASS ATTENDANCE
Students should make every effort to attend all classes.  Please
notify your instructor if you know of a class you will be missing ahead of time.  January
through May is especially important because this is when the dancers are learning their
recital numbers.  During this time students may arrange private lessons with their teacher to
make up for any missed choreography or review.
CLASS WITHDRAWALS The Office Manager should be notified immediately by phone call or
in writing (e-mail) if a child is being withdrawn from a class(es).  Until notified, your child’s
space will be held in class and you will be charged tuition for that month(s).
LOST & FOUND We have a Lost & Found box located between the studios.  Please label
your child’s dancewear, shoes and even dance bag with their name (first and last).
Valuables will be kept by the Office Manager at the front desk.
CLASS CANCELLATIONS/HOLIDAY If classes are cancelled due to weather or instructor
illness/absence, the studio will notify you of the cancellation and also if there is a scheduled
make-up class time.  The studio is closed for the following holidays only—LABOR DAY,
THANKSGIVING BREAK, CHRISTMAS BREAK AND SPRING BREAK.  These dates will be
posted at the studio and on our website (www.kingstreetdancecenter.com).
FOOD/DRINKS There is no gum, food, or drinks or any kind permitted in the dance studios.
Water breaks will be given during class.  Students may choose to bring their own water) to
be kept in the waiting area) or drink from our water cooler.  Food and drinks are allowed in
the main waiting room only.  Please  throw garbage in the trash cans.  EMPTY CUPS AND
CANS IN THE SINK PRIOR TO THROWING IN THE TRASH CAN.  DO NOT LEAVE SOILED
DIAPERS IN THE TRASH.  Unfortunately, if these rules are not followed food/drink privileges
could be lost.  Your cooperation is appreciated.
PARENT OBSERVATION To get the most out of our time in dance class and have the full
attention of our dancers, we close the studio room doors as soon as class begins.  We have
planned observation days to offer our parents a chance to see their child’s class in action.
Our observation days will be listed on our calendar in the studio, on newsletters and on our
website www.kingstreetdancecenter.com
ARRIVAL Please avoid arriving to the studio earlier than 10 minutes before your dance
class begins.  Teachers arrive to the studio earlier than this to prepare for class, not to
watch children before class.  Also, some of the younger children find it difficult to pay
attention for an entire class.  Therefore, the earlier you arrive at dance class, the less they
will be able to be attentive in class.  Experience has shown us what works, and arriving too
early to class doesn’t work for most young children  On the other hand, do try to be on time
please.  Young children do not “join in” to a class already in progress very easily.  It makes it
difficult for the teacher to keep the class involved if she has to stop class to coax in a late
dancer.  If you are running late, please help your child get his/her shoes on before entering
the room, so the teacher can continue teaching.  Make sure your child uses the restroom
before class.  We certainly allow dancers to use the restroom in an emergency, but only
when it is that.  Using the restroom sometimes turns into the “monkey see, monkey do” game.

DRESS CODE/CLASS ATTIRE Dance is a disciplined art form and must be respected as
such.  In order to teach effectively, see proper body alignment, and make necessary
corrections, the dancer must be dressed properly.  Also, hair must be secured out of the
face in a bun, ponytail, braid, etc.  Please keep extra ponytail holders in your dancers bag.
Ponytail holders can be purchased for 20 cents at the desk.
BALLET—Solid color leotard,
pink tights, pink ballet shoes. (Isotoner slippers are not acceptable).  Skirts are optional.
TAP—Leotards, tights, Capri pants, bike shorts or jazz pants and black tap shoes.  Tap
shoes with ribbon ties need to be replaced with elastic so that students may slip the shoes
on and off and so that ribbons do not come untied during class.
JAZZ—Leotards, tights,
Capri pants, bike shorts or jazz pants and black jazz shoes.  No dance sneakers please.
HIP
HOP
—shorts or loose fitting pants i.e. cargo pants, jazz pants or warm-ups, tennis shoes or
dance sneakers.
NO JEANS OF ANY KIND. SCHOOL UNIFORMS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE
DANCEWEAR.   See Ms. Karen if you have any questions about your child’s class attire
requirements.
KEEPING YOU INFORMED Please come in from time to time to check our bulletin board
and calendar on the wall.  We are constantly posting new information for you.  Any time a
note or newsletter goes home, we will also post one on the board in case the little elf in the
studio runs away with your dancer’s paper.  All schedules and important information will be
updated andPosted online at www.kingstreetdancecenter.com

well priced merchandise including leotard, tights, ballet shoes, jazz shoes, tap shoes, foot
thongs, tights, jazz pants and dance bags.  All items not in stock can be ordered for you.

you.   Payments for dancewear are by check or cash—no credit cards please.
PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES We at King Street Dance Center hope you will be active in
your child’s dance education.  Please feel free to talk to your child’s teacher at an
appropriate time.  Sometimes between classes is too rushed so we ask that you make an
appointment to talk to, call, or e-mail that teacher.  You may e-mail the studio at anytime at
kingstreetdancecenter@yahoo.com or hrdf@aol.com.
